Dawn Crowther released her latest book, Chronicles From Clifton. Weaving together historic diaries, compelling first hand accounts as well as her own memories of growing up in this wild and beautiful part of the world, Chronicles from Clifton reveals the story of our much-loved Clifton School of Arts.
With her stories of toil, tragedy, laughter and comradeship, Dawn reveals how, against all odds, successive generations of families in this close-knit mining town battled threats from the weather, from rising damp, from bureaucrats and developers alike to keep the School of Arts going.
Chronicles From Clifton goes a long way to explaining why successive waves of new arrivals to the Illawarra have fallen in love with our unpretentious institution and have joined the fight to keep its spirit intact. It’s the latest instalment in Dawn’s ongoing labour of love documenting the history of the institution and the community that built it. Her important work is at the core of our commitment to celebrate our vibrant history and culture. Chronicles From Clifton is published by our very own CSA Press.
All proceeds from the sale of this book go towards the ongoing maintenance of our heritage listed building.
